I have loved fashion since I was a teenager. I followed trends in high school by shopping at Macy’s and Gap and satisfying my cravings with affordable choices. I highly recommend splurging on a few timeless items and saving your pocketbook when following trends. I love expressing my individuality through my clothes. After obsessively studying the fashion trends for the last two years, I feel I can take the next step and make predictions on what we will see on the runway this year. Here goes:
Sky-High Heels & Platforms: Some women say they can never have too many pairs of shoes. I say one can never have too many shoes of one color. In 2016 I decided to expand my shoe collection and bought red Kate Spade pumps and Blue Charlotte Olympia flats. I predict this year designers will go crazy with shoes too. They will be higher (Sorry tall girls 🙁 ), more embellished, and bejeweled especially on the heels. I think designers should not ignore this part of the shoe and make it beautiful too. Sophia Webster is another designer who concentrates on the back part of the shoe.
Silk Scarves: I think scarves are going to make a comeback this year. I am thinking Audrey Hepburn circa Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday era. You will find scarves being worn as belts, hair ties, chokers, and in many more creative ways. So go to your nearest store and get your hands on a scarf of any size and color.
Knit Fabric: I think this year designers will play with fabric. Velvet was such a huge hit last year that they want to focus on the fabric rather than cuts and silhouettes. We will see a variety of fabrics in the market in some 2016 styles. Crop tops, cold-shoulders, and regular tee shirts or pullovers are here to stay. Playful fabrics will be something new and exciting to look forward to in 2017!
Belted Shirts: Belted clothes made such an impact on the eastern fashion industry last year. I think that trend will soon make its way to the west. Belts have been an accessory to dresses and skirts, but not tops yet in the west. I think this year fashionistas will wear beautiful belts with simple tops. I think it will lovely!
Fur: I think faux fur will be all the rage in the fall and winter season in 2017. We saw some faux fur in 2016 and I think it’s going to be bigger and better in 2017. Vests, fur-trimmed jackets, and coats, scarves, gloves, etc will all have patches of fur. I am a big animal lover so only faux fur for me.
Well guys, here are my predictions for 2017. Happy Shopping!
